Hatha yoga is a traditional form of yoga where focus is placed on correctly going into, staying in, and coming out of each pose. Every class is slightly different depending on a theme, group level or overall energy in the room. The class begins with breathing techniques and gentle movement to prepare the body and mind for the practice. In each class we practice the classical sun salutation or variations of it, followed by a selection of core hatha yoga asanas. We hold each asana for a few breaths, focusing on even and deep breathing and correct alignment. Both easier and more complicated variations of asanas are introduced so that everyone can find a variation suitable for them on any given day. The class finishes with a longer relaxing and calming sequence to really let the practice settle into the body. Regular practice of Hatha Yoga is known to improve flexibility and strength, help reduce stress, and bring overall calm and balance to our daily lives.
